Interview with Sparkie, Craig and Allison

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Sparkie: at first when I was classified in general pop yea they'll steal anything they can and don't give a shit about anybody
Craig: No. most of us were in for the same thing. Everyone that I talked to were in for anywhere from 5 days to 6 months. So everybody just want to do there time and get out. No one wanted to get in any trouble and add additional time to there sentence.
Allison: At first, yes. But with time I learned to keep to myself. Others were stealing and accusing others and I had an issue when I first arrived- the woman got violent and I was very scared. I learned quickly to be careful.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Sparkie: mind your own business and have no opinions on anything
Craig: Keep busy, Play cards, basketball, sleep, watch TV or lift weights.
Allison: Read and write. Agree with others no matter what.Not to be judgemental. Sad but having commissary helped.I never aske3d to change the tv channel, the more aggresive girls took charge of that. I played alot of card games and learned to stick with a limited few and be nice to others no matter how I felt or was spoken to - in order to avoid ugly confrontations.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Sparkie: no
Craig: To the best of my knowledge you couldn't pick your cellmate. In my ten days I had three different cellmates.
Allison: No choice was allowed. Change in cellmates depended on movement of other women, behaviors of others and releases. I had many cellmates at first, then had the same woman for 2 or more months.
